Stephenson & Turner provided the lighting design for the shared path and its five Ūranga public spaces, developing an environmentally responsible solution that prioritises user safety while protecting the surrounding coastal ecology. Designed in accordance with Dark Sky and ecological lighting principles, the lighting carefully controls spill light, glare and sky glow, helping preserve the natural character of the harbour at night. Warm colour temperatures and precisely directed light minimise disruption to sensitive ecological habitats, including the little blue penguin and skink reserves located beneath and alongside the pathway.

Integrated lighting creates a safe, legible and welcoming experience after dark while maintaining the visual dominance of the landscape. The result is a highly sustainable and ecologically sensitive lighting solution that demonstrates how infrastructure, environmental stewardship and community wellbeing can successfully coexist.
