Grey Street Urban Park sits in the heart of Lambton Quay, Wellington CBD’s vibrant commercial centre. As part of Wellington City Council’s revitalisation project, the park was redesigned to reduce visual clutter and create a safe, welcoming public space that supports both daytime activity and nighttime usability.
Stephenson & Turner’s lighting design team was engaged to highlight the new urban landscape elements. The lighting scheme features carefully placed illumination across seating areas, enhancing comfort and ambience, while the park’s water feature and Anton Parsons’ Braille artwork Invisible City were seamlessly integrated into a unified, visually coherent design.
Grey Street Urban Park received a commendation for Lighting Design at the IESANZ New Zealand Chapter Awards 2021, recognising its contribution to innovative public space lighting in Wellington.
